  19. This document will supplement the information found in the OS/2
  20. Installation Guide. A full understanding of the OS/2 Installation
  21. Guide is necessary to properly install OS/2 with DR DOS 6.0.

  24. PLANNING AHEAD
  25.  
  26. Determine which operating systems are to be used on the system and
  27. plan accordingly. If only OS/2 & DR DOS 6.0 are being installed,
  28. refer to the DUAL BOOT section below. If an additional single user
  29. disk operating system is going to be used refer to both the DUAL
  30. BOOT and MULTIPLE DOS sections. If you are planning to use OS/2, DR
  31. DOS and a third OS version refer to the MULTI BOOT section.

  33. DUAL BOOT  (OS/2 & DR DOS)
  34.  
  35. Dual Boot is the most practical method of installation for the
  36. customer with OS/2 and DR DOS. Prior to installation take care to
  37. observe the noted precautions.  Make sure that there is at least
  38. 40MB available as the primary partition. OS/2 can take as much as
  39. 34MB of disk space and DR DOS requires 2.5MB of space. Do not
  40. compress the primary drive with SuperSTOR or other disk compression
  41. utilities. As explained in the OS/2 Installation Guide on page 25:
  42.  
  43. -DR DOS must be installed on the drive prior to installing OS/2. 
  44. -Copy COMMAND.COM to the DR DOS directory and edit the CONFIG.SYS 
  45.  file to read:
  46.  
  47.        SHELL=C:\DRDOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DRDOS
  48.        (COMSPEC=C:\OSUTILS\COMMAND.COM for Multiuser DOS)

  50. OS/2 is now ready to install.

  53. MULTIPLE DOS (OS/2, DR DOS & ?DOS)
  54.  
  55. If more than one DOS is to be used with OS/2, batch files are used
  56. to determine which OS to boot.  A third party boot manager is
  57. required to use DR DOS and MS DOS with OS/2. A sample batch file to
  58. alternate between DR DOS 5.0 and DR DOS 6.0 follows:

  75. This file will remove the attributes of the IBMBIO.COM and
  76. IBMDOS.COM in order to rename them. Check for current version and
  77. prepare to change to alternate version. Rename the current system
  78. files to appropriate version files. Rename the future version files
  79. to the appropriate system files. Restore the attributes of the new
  80. system files.

  82. The system must be rebooted for these changes to take effect.

  84. NOTE: 
  85.      If Dual Booting from OS/2 - the system will return to the
  86.      version of DR DOS for the current system files.

  89. MULTI BOOT (OS/2, DR DOS & A THIRD OS)
  90.  
  91. Using the Multi Boot method described in the OS/2 Installation
  92. Guide follow the steps listed: 
  93.  
  94. -Prepare the drive with OS/2 FDISK (DO NOT FDISK with DR DOS)
  95. -Install OS/2
  96. -Format the DOS partition with the DR DOS FORMAT command
  97. -Install DR DOS
  98. -Copy COMMAND.COM to the DR DOS directory & edit the CONFIG.SYS to 
  99.  read:

  101.        SHELL=C:\DRDOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DRDOS
  102.        (COMSPEC=C:\OSUTILS\COMMAND.COM for Multiuser DOS)

  105. -Install the third operating system.

  107. This method does not work with two versions of DOS.
